The Vintage StyleCOMBINES THE TRADITIONAL STYLE WITH THE SHABBY CHIC STYLE

As indicated by the name, the vintage style brings in the spot light old (or at least outdated) objects and pieces, most of the times unique and full of personality. The Vintage style is made of two distinct styles, with very common traits: traditional style and shabby chic style.

About the traditional style

Inspired by the past, the traditional style is rather a style of comfort. Although it is considered outdated by many, the traditional style remaining a popular one.

Characteristics

The traditional look is based on balance, starting from the architecture and continuing with the furniture pieces. The furniture is usually arranged so that it should invite to a conversation, and the curved shapes are most commonly used.

Vintage interiors stand out through the attention given to decorating details on the walls, Persian or oriental rugs being preferred, and the drapes, most of the times, have fringes.

Used colors

In order to inspire the vintage style, the colors of the traditional style are neuter colors, but also pale shades of blue, red, green or pink.

Other colors such as turquoise or fuchsia can be used, but in small dosage. The flooring is usually oak, walnut, cherry or mahogany – usually dark shades.

The Shabby Chic style

Or the style that celebrates the imperfection! Unusual combinations are usual in this style, and the charm is brought by the vintage or antique furniture.

Characteristics

The furniture is imperfect and apparently unsuitable. At first sight, shabby chic style may seem chaotic, but there are couple of elements giving it unity. Materials are usually vaporous, with lots of ruffles and faded models.

Colors

To inspire the vintage style, the shabby chic colors are faded, light, most of the times, pastel: mint green, pale pink, ivory. Most certainly, white is the most used color, offering a perfect background for the furniture and decorations.

What should we remember?

The vintage style, with its branches, means using pieces with antique look, faded colors – mostly pastels and neuter shades – and attention to details and decorations.
